One of the main issues I faced in the last unit was picking out what fabric I wanted to use for my final piece. For this unit, we were told that we were going to be shown fabrics from RS Textiles. All the fabrics were different weights and textures. I actually found 2 fabrics that I absolutely loved.
They conveniently went with the theme I was thinking of as well.

I was adamant on getting these 2 fabrics for my final jacket. So I built up my concept around the two fabrics. One is a sheer striped muslin- like fabric and the other was crepe back satin. My concept surrounded around the body and different weights of fabrics layered up together. So for this project I had to design something with quite a lot of layers.
When it comes to the design process, usually I design something and then go on to work out which fabric would be more appropriate but for the first time, the process was reversed.
It seemed to work out better as there was a lot more focus on how the fabric looked and how it draped on the body. Knowing the weight of the fabric was extremely helpful as well.
