It's crazy to think I travelled back home, started placement and already completed a whole week. The week has gone by so quick, but I already feel like I've achieved and worked on so many things. Starting off with trend research, to motif designs, to shoes and back details, to menswear designs for four season's chef uniforms (perks of working for a celebrity designer) to learning how to create a wide scale repeat print to understanding how digital prints for sarees's are created.
One of the biggest things I've finally gotten the hang of (I think) is thinking in terms of the designers vision. It's not all about what I love, or what I find interesting, yes of course it is a contribution but I have to think along the lines of what the designer would vision or pick himself or what the upcoming show is all about. Also, everything I look into is meant to influence something. It's not dead research for sketchbook page fillers, it's actually meant to help create something new and enforce new ideas into the work. Everything has a purpose. It's insane to think I know what his new collections are going to look like. Unfortunately I can't include pictures from the saree Illustrator files we were working on as it's going to be launched in the near future but the process has been incredible so far.
The office is definitely fast paced and work pops up from everywhere and its different most of the time, but so far I'm in the graphic design team working on the digital print. I occasionally feel a rush of adrenaline when I work on these projects because I know I have to complete the work as soon as possible but the best part is so many people work on it together, so I'm surrounded by some of the most creative people.
It's been so exciting this first week, I cant wait to see what I work on further and how my skills improve as the weeks go by!
