As established, Manish Malhotra is a couturier. However he has been taking on newer projects this year. From weddings to online classes to the newest development, the school uniform designs for Birla Open Minds International School (BOMIS).
When I first heard about this project I was a bit confused. However the Birla's are a big name and this is the same as having a famous client, just for a slightly different project. The senior graphics designer and I were given the brief on this school, and were told that they were looking for new cuts and design proposals for their new school uniform. This uniform once selected (If selected) will go on to be the uniform for 65 of their schools, all over India.
We had to design the boys and girls t-shirts, shorts, trousers, skirts, sportswear including tee's, joggers, sports shorts. Also caps, socks and aprons for the pre-primary students. These schools are going to be for students from kindergarten to year 10. Keeping this in mind, we created CAD technical flats and used the school colours given to us, playing around with placement and the different elements.
Yesterday our designs were reviewed by Manish Malhotra himself and he approved 95%of them! We were told that he had a few notes and changes but apart from that everything else was selected. We made the changes and sent over the new presentation. Unfortunately I can't attach any of the designs, since the school hasn't selected what they want yet but we were very much appreciated from their team. Everyone loved the designs! The entire process took around 4 days, from the research to the designing to the final presentation.
It's so cool to think that I'll be seeing young students in the future potentially wearing my designs! The graphics designer and I have an amazing relation and it's been established that we work superbly together!
