“Defective sight in which objects cannot be properly seen if not close to the centre of the field of view.
Informal - the tendency to focus exclusively on a single or limited objective or view” Google (n.d.)
Something that I’ve definitely learned since being a part of a larger team of creative individuals is to accept opinions. Not that I don’t take notes well or anything, but it’s only when you single-handedly work on a project for a stretch do you realise you’re struggling with “tunnel vision”.
Now tunnel vision isn’t all that bad, when you do realise that you can’t seem to point out flaws or errors in your work or you’re just stuck, it’s always helpful to get someone else to have a look. It’s almost the same as when you write an essay and you get someone else to proof read it. A “fresh pair of eyes” is always, always a good idea. I’ve had multiple occurrences where I was working on a project and then a colleague would look at what I was doing and point out something I didn’t realise or sometimes even suggest an easier or better way to approach the work.
So far it’s happened the most when using software’s, mostly because there’s always an alternative way to use all the tools. There was this one time I spent almost 40 minutes doing something that would’ve probably taken only 15 if I had known what to use for the desired outcome. There was also another time I was sketching out a design and something about it just looked wrong, it was only when my colleague pointed out that I drew the drape of the sari on the wrong side of the body that it clicked!
It's so important to remember that no one is out to put you down in the work place and that everyone just wants the best for the company. In a way, the more efficient the work is from each individual the more efficiently the company will work. These seem like such obvious points but this is the first time I worked with so many people professionally, especially such a big brand, so I’ve been taking it all in.
